Going through my WIP box of Khurasan figures I found these guys, a mix of Undead and other nasty critters: 12 Zombie Wolves, 1 Vampire, 1 Werewolf and 30 Flayed Ones. They all looked sad so I gave them some quick paint jobs. Monsters are my favorite type of miniature to paint so I was looking forward to getting these done.
Khurasan Miniatures - Apocalypse 666 The Flayed and Zombie Wolves and Undead from their 15mm Fantasy Range |
Undead Wolves were easy topaint:
- Black Primer
- Vallejo Model Air Dark Grey Blue
- Vallejo Game Air Coldstone Grey
- Vallejo Game Air Wolf Grey
- Vallejo Game Color Dead Flesh & Bone White on various areas (bones, teeth, ect)
- Vallejo Game Color Gory Red and Bloody Red on the guts
- Finished off with multiple washes of various colors, letting them mix together as they will.
- Fur finished off with Nuln Oil.
The vampire (aka John Travolta) and werewolf were done in a similar scheme. Nothing special.
There are sadly only three poses in the wolf pack.
Those wolves look malnourished. |

The Flayed are small models, thin and not much bulk to them. There is not much you can do to make them look interesting.
Khurasan Apoc666 - The Flayed |
Personally, I hate painting red.....anyway their scheme was simple.
- Primed Vallejo Ivory
- Airbrushed with Vallejo Game Color Gory Red
- Washed with Army Painter Red Tone.
- Face and some chest areas washed with GW Violet wash
- Drybrushed lightly and only in certain spots with Vallejo Model Color Beige Red
This gives them a suitable hue which lets the details shine through, which at 15mm scale can be an issue, especially with darker colors like red. They look brighter in person than in these photos actually.
I wonder if that hurts? |
I originally got these guys to use in Zone Alpha and in Alien Squad Leader, as Thrall and Beast stands for Alien Enslaver armies. Every Sci-Fi game should have zombies in it. I still have the rest of the Khurasan Apocalypse 666 range to paint up, along with some of their more traditional fantasy zombies.
